Artist Statement

My purpose as an artist is to portray the beauty and color in our world and its people, especially in the South Carolina Lowcountry, as I experience them with my eyes and within my heart. I have this burning desire to paint!  I feel I started so late in life that I want to make up for the lost decades when I had not realized this passion.   I want to show paintings of familiar things, places and local people and attract the attention and appreciation for art of those who would not otherwise relate to it.  I love giving the joy of art to others.

 Biographical Info

Andrea was born in Charleston, SC where she still resides.  She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from Marymount College, Tarrytown, New York, and a Master of Education in Counseling from The Citadel in Charleston.  Andrea retired from Trident Technical College in North Charleston where she taught mathematics in the Developmental Studies Program.  She has also recently retired her business, Andrea Hazel Photography.  She has been painting in watercolors since 2001, and is now immersed in Andrea Hazel Watercolors and Oils full time.  She is passionate about art.  She is a part-time art student at the College of Charleston, an exhibiting member of the South Carolina Watermedia Society and an exhibiting member of the Charleston Artist Guild.  Her work can currently be seen at Drayton Hall Plantation, Caw Caw Interpretive Center and the Charleston Artist Guild Gallery.  Andrea is married to Frank Hamilton, and they have three children and five grandchildren.
